About The Position

The Assistant Director/Director of Sports Performance plays a critical leadership role in the athletic department under the area of Championship Performance. This position combines direct coaching responsibility with administrative leadership and facility management of the new Eric Foss Championship Performance Center. Additionally, this position will drive departmental innovation by leveraging nutrition, sports science data, and performance technologies to optimize student-athlete development, injury mitigation, and athletic longevity. This position will ensure all programs adhere to the highest standards of safety and compliance as outlined by the NCAA, MAC, and industry governing bodies. The finalized title for this position will be based upon qualifications and skill set of chosen candidate. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in designing and implementing year-round physical development programs at the collegiate or professional level.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a facility, conduct formal staff evaluations, and manage long-term capital purchase planning.
  • Must possess and maintain professional certifications in good standing as required by the NCAA, MAC, and the institution (e.g., NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-SCCC).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
  • Proven understanding of NCAA rules, recommendations, and industry-standard safety guidelines (NSCA/CSCCa).
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in facility management, equipment inventory, technology implementation, and budget tracking.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, medical staff, and athletic department stakeholders.

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Sports Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Additional years of experience in a collegiate athletic setting with a proven track record of supervising intern/assistant staff and managing facility budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead hiring committees, conduct formal staff evaluations, and manage long-term capital purchase planning.
  • Exceptional ability to foster collaborations with academic units and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Directly oversee assigned Sports Performance staff, conducting both formal and informal performance evaluations to foster professional growth.
  • Support the onboarding process for new staff and graduate assistants, interns, and volunteer students, and serve as an active member on the hiring committee for sports performance personnel.
  • Cultivate an environment of continuous learning by leading and attending regular staff meetings and semi-regular formal continuing education events.
  • Provide direct oversight of the new Eric Foss Championship Performance Center (CPC) weight room, managing facility scheduling, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
  • Oversee the upkeep, scheduling, and equipment in the CPC recovery room.
  • Manage the Sports Performance budget for the CPC. Maintain accurate records of annual purchases and develop strategic 1-, 3-, and 5-year expected purchase projections.
  • Provide direct oversight, program design, and implementation of comprehensive, year-round physical development programs for assigned athletic teams.
  • Manage and oversee additional sports programs as assigned.
  • Play an active, collaborative role in the student-athlete recruiting process when requested by sports coaching staff.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed, end-of-semester sport-specific reports to the Director of Sports Performance.
  • Maintain, update, and implement sports performance-related policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate and maintain collaborative, positive working relationships among all CPC staff members and athletic stakeholders.
  • Adhere strictly to all sports performance staff policies, ensuring full compliance with NCAA recommendations, Mid-American Conference (MAC) regulations, and NSCA/CSCCa guidelines.
  • Execute other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance, including stepping into a designated secondary role for the Sports Performance area when needed.
