About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance is responsible for directing and implementing a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for a minimum of two intercollegiate programs. In addition to creating a comprehensive program for assigned intercollegiate programs, the Assistant Athletic Director is responsible for directing, recruiting, and monitoring an internship program of qualified individuals who will assist in training our intercollegiate programs.

Requirements

  • CSCS or CSCCa certification required.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience.

Nice To Haves

  • USA Olympic Weightlifting Certification preferred.
  • Experience working with Division I athletics programs preferred.
  • Experience working with GPS monitoring technology or other load monitoring software preferred.
  • advanced degree in related health field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all strength and conditioning efforts for a minimum of two intercollegiate sport programs as assigned.
  • Direct, develop, and implement the sports performance program that prepares student athletes for intercollegiate competition.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of physiology and sport performance to create, direct, and implement evidence-based individualized sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for student athletes of assigned teams.
  • Instruct student-athletes on proper technique and execution of Olympic lifts, free weight exercises, flexibility, plyometric training, agility movements, speed development, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and all other parameters of sports performance.
  • Develop strength, power, endurance, flexibility, agility, and other attributes for student-athletes on assigned teams.
  • Work with the coaching staff of assigned teams to maximize intended results and minimize injuries.
  • Develop and implement performance testing with objective measuring criteria.
  • Travel with teams as assigned.
  • Assist Associate AD Nutrition Services, with meal programs for assigned teams.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based techniques applicable to assigned intercollegiate programs.
  • Work closely with the sports medicine staff to ensure student-athlete safety, monitor status, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries.
  • Maintain timely communication regarding student-athlete status between coaches, sports medicine, and administration.
  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director, Sports Performance, with other programs as needed.
  • Coordinate the efforts of external strength and conditioning personnel.
  • Oversee the internship program to support the needs of 20 Division I sports.
  • Oversee the hiring of interns and volunteer coaches.
  • Provide supervision of all sports performance interns to ensure compliance with established program curriculum standards.
  • Develop a comprehensive internship curriculum.
  • Provide instruction and feedback on programming, coaching technique, and curriculum assignments.
  • Coordinate the expansion of a student rotation program with other accredited universities offering Kinesiology or similar programs that aid in the development of future sports performance coaches.
  • Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the sport science programming for assigned teams.
  • Utilize assigned technology to make evidence-based decisions on programming.
  • Create reports for designated personnel to review.
  • Oversee and maintain the inventory, ordering, and budget needs for technology equipment.
  • Utilize assigned technology to work with the coaching staff to guide practice planning and decisions on load management.
  • Utilize assigned technology to provide feedback and direction for return-to-play decision-making for injured student-athletes.
  • Provide continuous evaluation of the current state of technology practices within the Athletic Department and provide recommendations that continuously advance the department.
  • Provide oversight to assigned staff.
  • Provide oversight and direction to assigned sports performance staff members.
  • Provide mentorship to sports performance staff members, interns, and students.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all assigned staff members.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of student athletes during strength and conditioning activities.
  • Work closely with the sports medicine staff to ensure student safety, monitor status, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries.
  • Maintain effective communication with sports medicine staff regarding student-athlete status to ensure all sports performance activities operate within the medically directed guidelines for injured student-athletes.
  • Manage the ordering of designated inventory items and help maintain a balanced budget.
  • Conduct an annual review of the policies and procedures manual and provide recommendations to the Associate Athletic Director, Sports Performance, for updates.
  • Manage a comprehensive continuing education program for all Sports Performance staff that ensures compliance with certification requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with sports medicine staff regarding the medical status of respective athletes.
  • Maintain effective communication and provide performance feedback to coaches and student-athletes.
  • Maintain effective communication with all staff on the sports performance department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and communication of the quarterly weight room schedule utilized by the department’s 20 intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Oversee the equipment replacement program and annual maintenance to ensure the safety and maintenance of all designated equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Abide by and be aware of all conference and NCAA regulations to ensure departmental compliance.
  • Attend continuing education symposiums as required to maintain CSCS certification.
