About The Position

Mitchell College is seeking an Assistant Director/Coordinator of Student Engagement (AD/CSE) to lead and manage the Office of Student Engagement. This role is responsible for creating a dynamic, inclusive, and enriching co-curricular experience that aligns with the college's mission of building a Beloved Community and supporting the Mitchell College Abilities framework. The AD/CSE will oversee student organizations, leadership development, campus programming, and civic engagement, while also supervising staff and fostering campus-wide collaboration to enhance the student experience. This is an essential personnel position requiring a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to support campus needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in student engagement, student activities, leadership development, and/or residence life within a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a diverse campus community.
  • Experience in program development, budget management, and event planning.
  • Ability to advise, mentor, and supervise students and early-career professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory and its application in co-curricular settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with technology, including student engagement platforms and social media tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build meaningful relationships with diverse constituents.
  • Commitment to student success, retention, persistence, and inclusive excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with student information and engagement systems (Blackbaud, Advocate, Residence, UniHub).
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with learning differences and/or neurodiverse learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive oversight of the Office of Student Engagement, ensuring programs, services, and initiatives are coordinated, inclusive, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Develop and implement programming that fosters belonging and advances the College’s vision of a Beloved Community.
  • Ensure departmental initiatives support and reinforce the Mitchell College Abilities, integrating skill development into co-curricular experiences.
  • Maintain a centralized campus programming calendar and oversee marketing strategies.
  • Manage departmental resources, including programming spaces, equipment, and supplies.
  • Lead and/or assist with the planning and execution of major campus-wide programs (e.g., New Student Orientation, Fall Weekend, Campus Honors and Awards Ceremony, Senior Week).
  • Oversee the development, coordination, and assessment of student-led events and initiatives, ensuring adherence to policies and risk management practices.
  • Coordinate contracts and logistics with campus partners and external vendors.
  • Support and facilitate evening and weekend programming.
  • Chair the Networking Council and promote collaborative, cross-departmental programming efforts.
  • Advise and support the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Student Government Association (SGA), overseeing their programming, leadership development, and budget management.
  • Oversee all student clubs and organizations, ensuring compliance with policies, effective event planning, and accurate tracking of programs and events.
  • Guide the development and implementation of student leadership training programs.
  • Support students in establishing new organizations and foster a collaborative and inclusive student organization environment.
  • Lead the training and implementation of student engagement software (UniHub by Symplicity), establishing processes and best practices.
  • Utilize UniHub by Symplicity to track participation, assess learning outcomes, and enhance student involvement.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a student engagement curriculum that integrates co-curricular learning with the Mitchell College Abilities.
  • Utilize UniHub by Symplicity to track engagement and support the creation and ongoing management of a co-curricular transcript.
  • Design and execute assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate student focus groups and generate reports for divisional and institutional decision-making.
  • Contribute to institutional initiatives related to civic engagement, retention, and support for commuter and non-traditional students.
  • Ensure Student Affairs web content related to engagement is current and accurate.
  • Supervise a full-time Fellow within the Office of Student Engagement, providing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Support professional growth for the supervised Fellow through mentorship, training, and development opportunities.
  • Supervise and support student leaders.
  • Provide training for students, faculty, and staff on student engagement systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support the training and development of student leaders across campus.
  • Oversee the coordination of civic engagement programming and cultivate community partnerships.
  • Provide oversight of the Mariner Market (campus pantry), including operations, student access, inventory coordination, and partnerships.
  • Design and implement programs that promote inclusion, cultural awareness, and community engagement.
  • Create intentional opportunities for students to connect across differences and contribute to a campus community grounded in respect and belonging.
  • Serve on college committees and working groups as assigned.
  • Represent the Office of Student Engagement in cross-functional collaborations and campus-wide initiatives.
  • Assist with institutional programming and events (e.g., Admissions Open House, Fall & January Move-In, Commencement).
  • Maintain and enhance established campus traditions and signature programs.
  • Collaborate with key campus partners (Facilities, Dining Services, Auxiliary Services, First-Year Experience, Health and Wellness, etc.) to develop, coordinate, and execute student engagement programs and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice Provost of Student Success and Innovation or Assistant Dean for Student Life.
