About The Position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Events & Facilities supports the overall planning, coordination, and execution of athletic events and daily facility operations for the University of Memphis Athletics Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Athletic Events & Facilities, this position plays a key role in ensuring that all venues are maintained and operated efficiently, events are executed at the highest standard, and departmental policies align with University, Conference, and NCAA guidelines. This position serves as a primary game administrator for assigned sports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in intercollegiate or professional athletic event and facility operations.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating large-scale events and staff/student workers.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Sport Management, Athletic Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year with NCAA Division I athletic programs.
  • Familiarity with EMS scheduling systems, credentialing processes, and venue management software.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, administrators, vendors, and campus partners.
  • Problem-solving and crisis management skills during live events.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and supervise a diverse group of student staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, event scheduling tools, and digital communication platforms.
  • Understanding of NCAA, AAC, and University compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in the daily management, scheduling, and coordination of assigned athletic facilities.
  • Serve as game administrator for assigned sports, ensuring smooth execution of all home events and compliance with NCAA and conference standards.
  • Oversee facility readiness, event setup, and post-event breakdown in collaboration with operations, custodial, and grounds crews.
  • Coordinate visiting team logistics, including access, practice scheduling, credentials, parking, and hospitality.
  • Support the planning and implementation of inclement weather protocols, emergency procedures, and game-day troubleshooting.
  • Ensures all athletic events are accurately scheduled and submitted through the campus Event Management System in accordance with institutional policies and operational timelines.
  • Coordinates and ensures the timely submission of all food orders for game day meals in accordance with team and event operational needs.
  • Help develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and best practices related to event and facility management.
  • Support communication with campus partners, vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure operational alignment.
  • Provides administrative oversight and operational support for assigned athletic buildings, ensuring organizational efficiency and the effective coordination of office-related functions and services.
  • Assist in the coordination and oversight of facility maintenance projects, upgrades, and capital improvements.
  • Serve as secondary point of contact for outside rentals and non-athletic events in athletics facilities.
  • Collaborate with other departments on initiatives involving fan engagement, branding, and community partnerships.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletic Events & Facilities.
