About The Position

The Assistant Director, Adult Education/ESL plays a crucial role in the operational and instructional aspects of the Adult Education program. This position involves building and managing schedules, hiring and supervising adjunct faculty and other program staff, developing curriculum, facilitating student intakes, and contributing to resource development and marketing efforts. The role also requires active participation in the Adult Education Leadership Team and fostering a culture of belonging and inclusivity within the program and the college community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in coordination, teaching, management, and leadership in Adult Education/ ESL or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff/faculty.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with grants, data management systems, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience working with non-native English language learners.

Responsibilities

  • Build and Staff Schedules: Develop and submit schedules for orientations, classes, learning labs, and pre-and post-testing; ensure appropriate number of sections are offered based on course demand; reserve classrooms/facilities; assign instructors to scheduled classes; provide updated schedules when there are changes.
  • Hire and Supervise Adjunct Faculty: Determine instructional staffing needs; communicate with Human Resources about hiring processes; review adjunct pool; interview candidates; onboard and train new instructors; observe and evaluate annually; ensure instructor compliance with policies; ensure faculty have necessary resources; monitor and disseminate class performance data; address student complaints/faculty issues; verify and sign time sheets.
  • Supervise Other Program Staff: Assist with hiring processes and make recommendations; assist with onboarding/training of new staff; evaluate staff.
  • Determine and Deliver on Professional Development Needs of Staff: Determine professional development needs of staff and ESL Adjunct Faculty; organize/facilitate professional development training.
  • Develop/Select Curriculum: Develop and/or select curriculum/educational materials in cooperation with the Director and other staff and faculty.
  • Facilitate New Student Intakes: Assist with completing student intakes; coordinate enrollment, intake, orientation, onboarding, and career pathways processes; strengthen educational supports and opportunities for students.
  • Assist with Resource Development: Assist in writing and managing grants; communicate and collaborate regarding funding opportunities.
  • Assist with Marketing and Public Relations: Assist in planning and development of promotional material; represent the program at community and College events; assist in recruitment and community education.
  • Serve as a Member of the Adult Education Leadership Team: Attend meetings; contribute constructively; communicate regularly and respectfully with supervisor and team members; set an example of professionalism and teamwork.
