About The Position

This is a Career Service position for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor located at Lancaster Correctional Institution in the Education department. The instructor will be responsible for delivering instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts, and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The mission of the Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates, aiming to enhance their academic, vocational, and life skills to promote personal development and successful reintegration into society, thereby reducing recidivism. This position is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire
• State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
• Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
• Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
