About The Position

The Assistant Deli Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent service and assisting in the management and leadership of the deli team. The role supports the Deli Manager in managing and merchandising the department to maximize productivity and profit, and oversees ordering, inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. It coordinates production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. The Assistant Deli Manager also helps hire, teach, train, and develop team members; unloads and sorts deliveries; operates and maintains deli equipment; and ensures the team follows company health, safety, and sanitation requirements.

The position requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and involves operating deli equipment and performing physical tasks such as lifting and standing. Other related duties may be assigned. The stated pay range is $17.90–$26.70 per hour, based on applicable experience and qualifications.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be dependable and reliable and able to work a flexible schedule that may change with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to take and give direction and participate in a team environment.
• Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers, take special orders, and answer phones.
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
• Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Must have and maintain Food Safety certification.
• Strong organization and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Able to lift and carry products weighing up to 70 pounds from 4 to 60 inches in height, for up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance, for up to 4 hours.
• Able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
• Able to operate a slicer, wrapping equipment, and cooking equipment, and assist in maintaining equipment in safe working condition.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of deli or related food service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed by the Deli team.
• Meet applicable standards for product freshness, food safety, weights and measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
