About The Position

The management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve. Universal is seeking a dynamic and passionate Assistant Dean of Students to work in an urban setting in Philadelphia, PA. The Assistant Dean will work to create a warm and welcoming school culture that is driven by student achievement, and teachers are committed to high expectations and dedicated support for students.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Have 2 years of experience in a school setting, monitoring and supervising school climate and culture.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the school's mission and success.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with peers.
  • Abides by applicable policies and procedures and state and federal education regulations.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Administer student discipline and policies and procedures related to student conduct, discipline and student rights and responsibilities.
  • Maintain building standards for student conduct, recommend suspensions and expulsions for administrative approval.
  • Supervise students in lunchrooms, hallways, classes, on buses, activities and curricular program, and other programs held under sanction.
  • Maintain liaison with parents on discipline and attendance matters.
  • Contact parents as needed, conduct parent, student and teacher conferences on discipline and attendance.
  • Maintain positive public and community relations.
  • Conduct investigations related to student conduct and complaints.
  • Coordinate with school security, police, parents, students, the community, and the public and other agencies.
  • Provide recommendations to administrators as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of school leadership team, attend meetings, communicate information and participate in instructional development within the school.
  • Provide a variety of insights, recommendations, and reports and assist in implementing building decisions.
  • Cooperate with Principal and/or Assistant Principal and provide input to staff as appropriate.
  • Monitor students during lunch periods.
