About The Position

The position of the Assistant Cross Country Coach II is to provide a Christ-Centered environment for student-athletes to excel as individuals and as members of a team. This role will carry out King’s School’s mission and vision while bringing innovative ideas and techniques to the athletic playing field.

Requirements

  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
  • Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
  • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
  • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Previous coaching experience recommended
  • Coaching certification through FinalForms
  • Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. ( WAC 388-113 ).
  • Must agree with King’s Mission and Vision
  • Possess and maintain a valid CPR/AED/First Aid card and keep abreast of the latest information regarding the safety of athletes in competition.
  • Annually meet or exceed the WIAA coaching standards as published in the WIAA Handbook or in the King’s Schools Coaches Handbook.
  • Have understanding and knowledge of King’s School’s philosophy and goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Optionally possess and maintain van certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
  • Cross Country Coaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Have an understanding and teach the rules and regulations of Cross Country as presented in the WIAA Handbook, the Conference guidelines, and NFHS rule book. Keep abreast of all rules changes.
  • Keep abreast of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attending coach clinics (including concussion, cardiac arrest, general rules and sports specific rules clinics each year), workshops, and reading up on coaching techniques.
  • Assist head coach in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide continuous promotion of the King’s Schools Athletic programs.
  • Be supportive of the head coach and the program developed by the head coach.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner becoming of an assistant coach.
  • Be knowledgeable about the information contained in the coach’s handbook, including King’s Child Protection Policy.
  • Complete rules clinic prior to the start of the season.
  • Assist the head coach in the proper registration of all participants.
  • Assist the head coach in systematically issuing equipment.
  • Meet with all the participants to discuss all rules and regulations developed for the program, with particular emphasis on the Athletic Code.
  • Attend organizational meetings with the head coach to formulate plans for the coming season.
  • Regularly attend all practices and contests.
  • Conduct reflecting a Christ-like, moral, ethical and professional manner expected of a coach.
  • Assist in implementing the Athletic Core Covenants.
  • Assume responsibility for the care of equipment and facilities.
  • Immediately, and systematically check in all equipment for any athlete that finishes the season early, and store equipment in the appropriate place, reporting any lost equipment to the head coach.
  • Assume supervisory control and responsibility over athletes and teams as assigned.
  • Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and injury-preventive methods, applying knowledge of the emergency protocol, procedures and emergency action plan, and monitoring athletes for signs of illness or injury.
  • Promote good sportsmanship and citizenship, emphasizing ethical behavior at all times.
  • Assist the head coach in evaluating the program, players, and the progress of both.
  • Assist the head coach in every manner to insure that the program is a positive educational experience for all participants.
  • Assist in the return, storage and inventory of school equipment.
  • Recommend athletes for awards, attending athletic awards night.
  • Provide feedback on facility maintenance and improvement ideas.
  • Recommend schedule improvements to head coach.
  • Make reports as requested by the head coach and athletic director.
  • Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
