About The Position

In cooperation with the Warehouse Crew Leader, provide leadership and coordination of internal warehouse services to ensure accurate and timely distribution of supplies to district schools. Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) provides an innovative learning environment that engages and empowers each student to develop the knowledge and essential skills to become a competent, responsible, and compassionate citizen. Requirements

  • Two year AA or Technical degree in a related field or demonstrated successful experience as defined in the essential functions within the last ten (10) years.
  • Four years directly related supervisory and warehouse experience in a similar size school district or other organization may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Two years recent experience using stock control functions of a computerized inventory control system used in ordering and receiving of products.
  • Experience with current office technology (e.g., computers, fax, copier, GroupWise, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Current WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines including by not limited to varying working hours when necessary.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of warehouse employees with exception of those represented by another bargaining unit.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, recommend solutions and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to maneuver around district schools and buildings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using all communication methods.
  • Ability to move around in crowded areas, and climb stairs and rolling ladders.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or 1/3 your body weight.
  • Ability to lift, move and/or safely carry items weighing up to 300 pounds or more, using mechanical assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy with math compilations.
  • Ability to operate all types of warehouse equipment and vehicles except those requiring a Class ‘A’ CDL.
  • Ability to safely drive to various work locations.
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements, goals, and outcomes.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner in accordance with federal, state, and local law, as well as, district safety policy, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess hazards and feasibility for completing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Facility Support Services Supervisor in management of the warehouse for the entire district, working closely with district administrators.
  • Assist the Facility Support Services Supervisor and Human Resources in decisions concerning interviewing, hiring, and promotion of warehouse staff.
  • Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed and as directed by the Facility Support Services Supervisor.
  • Communicate orally and/or in writing as performance and/or discipline concerns deem necessary. Strong writing skills essential.
  • Assist in coordinating and reviewing work of other employees as needed.
  • Assist in resolving complaints concerning warehouse services.
  • Coordinate receiving department activities to include incoming and outgoing freight, reconciliation of damaged goods and other identified problems, operation of computerized UPS tracking system, and fixed asset equipment processing.
  • Coordinate inventory control activities to ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained, rotating stock on a FIFO basis and maintain high level inventory accuracy.
  • Assist in coordinating surplus property activities to include pick up at district locations, physical inventory of surplus property, staging for final disposition, and final disposition utilizing established BER (Beyond Economical Repair) and district surplus property procedures.
  • Participate in district supervisory training.
  • Maintain and update material safety data sheet (MSDS) booklet for all hazardous materials used by warehouse personnel.
  • Train personnel in the safe use of hazardous materials.
  • Assist safety committee chairperson in monthly safety meetings.
  • Oversee filling of orders placed by district facilities and outside agencies served by the warehouse.
  • Direct warehouse employees in accurate and efficient selections, staging, and delivery of items.
  • Assist overseeing daily operation of the warehouse, setting priorities, routing, special instructions, overseeing progress and quality of work, resolving problems, and supporting warehouse clerical staff at the direction of the Chief Operations Officer.
  • Evaluate employee performance, submitting probationary evaluations and annual performance reviews.
  • Assist Facility Support Services Supervisor in personnel related activities, including review of time sheets, performance evaluations, employee training, safety procedures, and record keeping.
  • Coordinate staff in maintaining perpetual inventory and annual physical inventory.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
