About The Position

Vacancy is in the Office of Corporation Counsel. Under administrative direction and supervision, provides full time legal assistance to the Corporation Counsel and the Deputy Corporation Counsel, as legal advisor of the Council, Mayor and all other departments, boards, commissions or agencies of the City on matters affecting the interests of the City. Prepares and assists in the preparation of pleadings, filing of court papers in connecting with suits, trials, appeals and other legal procedures involving the City. Tries such cases involving the City and its officers and employees as may be assigned. Reviews and passes on the legality or sufficiency of contracts and leases. Upon assignment, reviews and recommends to the Corporation Counsel policies and actions necessary to conform to statutes of the State of Connecticut and the Charter and ordinances of the City. Attends, by assignment, meetings of the Council and meetings of boards, commissions and committees. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college of law
  • Three (3) years of experience in the practice of law
  • Must be in good standing with the Bar of the State of Connecticut
  • Must have been a member of the Bar of the State of Connecticut for at least three (3) years prior to appointment
  • A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION.

  • Preferably be a bona-fide resident of the City of Hartford at the time of application.
