About The Position

The Assistant Controller is a seasoned finance leader responsible for strengthening controls, scaling accounting operations, and providing actionable financial insight. This highly visible role partners with the Corporate Controller, business leaders, external auditors, and private equity stakeholders while leading the team, improving processes, and supporting project-based accounting, job costing, and audit readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including close, reporting, controls, audit support, project accounting, job costing, and accounting operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, internal controls, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strategic people leadership experience, including assessing, scaling, coaching, and developing accounting teams in a growing organization.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, implement controls, strengthen reporting, and partner cross-functionally with finance, operations, IT, HR, payroll, and project teams.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems, reporting tools, and accounting automation preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP system.
  • General understanding of the wireless, telecommunications, construction, or project-based services industry.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed environment or interacting with private equity partners preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to operational and functional leaders by providing timely, accurate, and actionable financial insights that support business planning, performance improvement, and informed decision-making.
  • Lead and continuously improve monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules are accurate, timely, and aligned with GAAP and company standards.
  • Design, strengthen, and monitor internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance practices to safeguard assets, reduce financial risk, and support audit readiness.
  • Streamline accounting workflows, standardize processes, automate recurring activities, and improve the efficiency and reliability of financial operations as the organization grows.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, project accounting, job costing, and management reporting to explain business drivers, margin trends, and risks.
  • Partner with IT, operations, payroll, HR, project management, and finance teams to improve systems, reporting, data integrity, controls, and timely issue resolution.
  • Own the external audit relationship, serving as the primary point of contact for audit planning, requests, documentation, and coordination with external auditors.
  • Assess, scale, and develop the accounting team by setting clear expectations, building technical capability, improving accountability, and creating a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee cash application, accounts receivable, invoicing, customer communication, collections, purchase order tracking, and related customer portal activity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Anticipate financial risks, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions before issues escalate.
  • Use financial data, scalable processes, and audit-ready controls to improve margin visibility, operational accountability, and decision-making.
