About The Position

The Assistant Controller owns key accounting operations, with an emphasis on inventory accounting, close execution, financial reporting, and technical accounting support. The role drives a disciplined monthly, quarterly, and annual close; oversees inventory accounting from standard costing and valuation through reserves and reconciliations; and works with the Shared Service Center to coordinate and review close deliverables. The Assistant Controller analyzes inventory trends and risks, standardizes recurring reconciliations and reporting, and implements process and systems improvements to reduce manual work. The position also serves as a subject matter resource on revenue recognition under ASC 606, including SSP methodology and deferred revenue, and on broader financial reporting matters. It supports external audits and complex accounting questions, including drafting or reviewing technical accounting memos as needed. The role manages, mentors, and develops accounting staff and partners with Supply Chain, Operations, FP&A, Revenue Operations, the SSC, and Internal Audit to strengthen controls and resolve accounting issues.

  • Experience working with or overseeing a Shared Service Center or similar outsourced/offshore accounting operation.
  • Strong ERP systems experience, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar.
  • Comfort working with large datasets in Excel; SQL or similar tools are desirable.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an ERP or system migration, such as a legacy-system migration to D365, Oracle, or similar.
  • Experience with revenue recognition tools such as Zuora Revenue, RevPro, or NetSuite ARM.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a disciplined, well-controlled monthly, quarterly, and annual close and identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Own end-to-end inventory accounting, including standard costing, valuation, excess and obsolete reserves, shrink reserves, and period-end reconciliations.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, and FP&A on cycle counts, physical inventory, and inventory variance analysis.
  • Coordinate close deliverables with the Shared Service Center; review SSC-prepared reconciliations and journal entries; and ensure consistent accounting treatment between corporate and SSC-managed processes.
  • Review and approve inventory-related journal entries and account reconciliations, as well as other key balance sheet reconciliations owned by the role.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory trends, identify risks such as obsolescence, cost variances, and slow-moving stock, and drive resolution.
  • Standardize recurring reconciliations and reporting packages so they are repeatable rather than ad hoc.
  • Identify and implement process and systems improvements, including ERP configuration, automation, and reconciliation tooling.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource on revenue recognition under ASC 606, including SSP methodology and deferred revenue, and broader financial reporting matters; help resolve complex or judgmental accounting questions and draft or review technical accounting memos as needed.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff and build the team's technical bench strength.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, FP&A, Revenue Operations, the SSC, and Internal Audit to embed good controls upstream.
  • Act as a resource for external auditors on areas of ownership and technical accounting questions.
