About The Position

Delta Star Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of an assigned manufacturing or service business unit. The role partners closely with and reports to the Business Unit Controller, helping ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting while supporting month-end close, inventory management, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and internal controls. The Assistant Controller supports day-to-day accounting and financial reporting, analyzes financial results, investigates variances, and works with operational teams to improve business performance. The position includes financial analysis, close activities, project cost reporting, and business decision support to help leaders understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement. This is an onsite position for Delta Star Field Service at 1018 Dillard Drive, Forest, VA 24551. Candidates must be within a safe driving distance of the location. Minimal travel may be required to support business operations, audits, training, or company initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2–5 years of accounting, financial reporting, or financial analysis experience.
Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial close processes.
Experience preparing financial reports and conducting financial analysis.
Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP.
Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory accounting concepts.
Ability to analyze financial results and identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Strong variance analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills.
Ability to interpret financial data and communicate findings effectively.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build collaborative relationships across Finance and Operations.

Responsibilities

Support general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial record accuracy.
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting financial schedules.
Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
Review financial results and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual transactions.
Prepare and analyze weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports.
Support manufacturing cost accounting, including labor, material, and production variance analysis.
Monitor project financial performance and investigate cost variances.
Coordinate inventory accounting, reconciliations, and physical inventory activities.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
Assist with internal and external audits and prepare required documentation.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal control requirements.
Support ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and accounting process improvements.
Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and business leaders to provide financial analysis and decision support.
Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, financial controls, and operational performance.
Communicate financial findings, risks, and recommendations to management.
