About The Position

The Assistant Controller will work directly with the Controller to support and oversee American Battery Solutions’ (“ABS”) accounting and financial operations. This role is responsible for a range of accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger management, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and budgeting. The Assistant Controller will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records while maintaining compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting. As a key member of the finance team, this individual will support the continued development of the accounting function by enhancing processes, strengthening internal controls, and contributing to operational efficiency across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and general ledger management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing General Ledger accounting responsibilities.
  • Experience supporting external audits and maintaining compliance with GAAP.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, advanced formulas, and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Plex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) preferred.
  • Experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare closing journal entries and account reconciliations, conducting research, and making corrections for account discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Own the accounts receivable process, including purchase order review and invoicing, customer management and communication, and payments.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process, including invoice entry, vendor communication and vendor payments.
  • Perform account analysis on a variety of accounts on balance sheets and income statements.
  • Review bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow forecasting and monitoring liquidity.
  • Review fixed asset ledger, journal entries and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with budget preparation and analysis.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation, responding to auditor requests, evaluating findings, and implementing corrective actions to strengthen financial controls and compliance.
  • Create, update, and maintain accounting procedures to adhere to company policies and uphold the integrity of the processes during internal and external audits.
  • Work closely with other departments and provide cross functional support across the organization including the parent company, Komatsu.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
