About The Position

Kardium is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their Finance team. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in overseeing the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing the month-end close process, maintaining internal controls, supporting audits, and providing leadership to the accounting team. The Assistant Controller will serve as a key business partner across departments and help drive process improvements and financial discipline throughout the organization. This is a hybrid work arrangement position located in Burnaby, BC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or regulated industry.
  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech environments strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership in operational setting experience preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive change.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of general ledger accounting activities.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Provide supporting oversight of accounts payable, sales and accounts receivable, fixed assets, and inventory processes.
  • Maintain accounting records and ensure data integrity within ERP systems.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and contribute to analyses of variances to forecast and prior periods.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support external audit activities.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to auditor inquiries and assist with issue resolution.
  • Support tax filings and compliance requirements as needed.
  • Partner with FP&A team to provide financial analysis and insights.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Support financial planning initiatives and management reporting requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Review team output for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Support ERP enhancements, reporting automation, and other finance transformation initiatives.
