About The Position

Midwest Direct helps our clients efficiently create and deliver their print, mail and digital messages with the best audience data for targeted and accurate deliverability. When you add in our additional delivery channels, such as email, Informed Delivery, and online advertising, we average over two million messages a day delivered to mailboxes, inboxes and online. Midwest Direct is looking for an Assistant Controller! $500 Sign-On Bonus! The Assistant Controller will collaborate with the CFO in the daily operations of the accounting department, assisting in the month-end close process to ensure accurate financial reporting. This specific role focuses heavily on risk management, cost accounting, variance analysis, account reconciliations, inventory control (customer escrow accounts), forecasting, document processes, and tax reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can communicate effectively with both corporate executives and plant floor managers to optimize operational efficiency and safeguard company assets and financial integrity.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
At least 2–3 years within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Strong expertise in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
Advanced Excel capabilities (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data modeling)
Excellent analytical problem-solving traits
Collaborative mindset
Ability to explain complex financial metrics to non-financial plant operations teams.

Nice To Haves

MBA is preferred.
Possessing or candidate for a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Maintain company insurance policies including change reviews, yearly audits, bond requests, premium adjustments, and premium payments
Investigate standard variances, analyze labor reporting, and perform plant absorption calculations.
Assist month-end close processes, coordinate financial statement consolidation, and assist in the preparation of monthly business review packages.
Provide general ledger audit support and analysis including intercompany account balances and bank reconciliations.
Oversee physical inventory audits (stamps, customer postage balances & fleet vehicle titles).
Supervise and mentor accounting team across Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Fixed Assets, cash applications, and other general ledger activities.
Partner with the CFO to drive the budget process including updates of rolling cap-ex forecasts.
Establish, test, and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures to minimize financial and operational risk.
Calculate, prepare, and file quarterly sales & use tax, CAT & IFTA returns in compliance with local and state requirements.
