About The Position

Devil Mountain is looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our Accounting leadership team. Reporting to the VP of Accounting, the Assistant Controller will help lead day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, general ledger activities, internal controls, and audit preparation. This role will also directly supervise and develop accounting team members while helping ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the company’s financial information. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both the technical and people sides of accounting and is ready to take meaningful ownership of accounting operations while serving as a key partner and backup to the VP of Accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Prior experience supervising and developing accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • General knowledge of corporate tax and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while coordinating the work of others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system.
  • Experience with external financial audits and regulatory or tax reporting.
  • Experience working in a multi-location organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, payroll, and other accounting functions.
  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes and help ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule.
  • Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and related accounting transactions.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members while helping prioritize workloads and maintain accountability for deadlines and accuracy.
  • Prepare financial schedules and reporting for company leadership and our parent company.
  • Lead the annual financial audit process and coordinate other external and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal accounting controls and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Partner across Finance, Operations, Purchasing, Inventory, and other departments to research and resolve accounting and financial reporting issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Serve as a key backup to the VP of Accounting and support special projects and financial initiatives.
