We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing team! Our ideal candidate understands the warehouse/distribution industry, preferably with experience managing non-durable goods. This person has enthusiasm for quality foods, loves working in a fast-paced environment, and strives to build and maintain excellent partnerships with vendors and customers. The incumbent will develop accounting policies and oversee all financial procedures of our company. As a manager, you’ll monitor the company’s financial status, review quarterly and annual budgets and manage accounting transactions. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with risk management. Ultimately, you’ll make sure we comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits and mitigate risks. This position requires an in-office presence of at least four days per week at our Vineland location. In addition, this individual may need to travel to our second location in Florence, NJ on as needed basis. This is a hands-on position, and the leader must be comfortable digging into administrative details then pivoting to strategic thought leadership on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • Equivalent experience in a similar role or as a Controller will be considered.
  • Minimum 4-6 years in an accounting position, documenting, monitoring, developing and administering accounting related policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and legislation is required.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Experience with cash management and risk assessment.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in MS Office is required (Excel and PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable presenting to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Must be detail-oriented and willing to challenge the status quo with the goal of efficiency and process optimization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in financial reporting and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with systems implementations a plus.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor Accounting Team, including Accounts Receivables and Payables.
  • Document, monitor and update accounting policies.
  • Ensure all payments are completed on time (including accounts payable and bank deposits).
  • Review quarterly and annual budgets for all departments.
  • Analyze costs and profits.
  • Set and track financial KPIs.
  • Build risk assessment models to evaluate investments.
  • Report on financial status on a regular basis and create ad-hoc reports when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems.
  • Perform internal audits and assist with external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations.
  • Develop and maintain 13-week cash flow forecast model and assist in other forecasting as needed.
  • Understanding of intercompany transactions and elimination entries.
