About The Position

The Assistant Controller is the hands-on accounting leader responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and the integrity of day-to-day transactional accounting. The role connects accurate ledger activity with dependable financial reporting, supporting the Controller and CFO with reliable information for analysis and decision-making. The position oversees close planning, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, consolidations, cut-off, variance review, issue resolution, and reporting. It also strengthens transactional accounting across revenue, inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, leases, commissions, and other significant accounts. The Assistant Controller leads inventory accounting and the monthly inventory close, improves the commission process, and helps ensure financial and management reporting is timely and decision-ready. The Assistant Controller serves as the Accounting team’s hands-on NetSuite expert, improving system use, data integrity, workflows, reporting accuracy, approval controls, and exception management. The role also strengthens internal controls, documentation, audit readiness, and accounting processes, and partners with technology resources and external consultants on scalable solutions. This is not a NetSuite developer or system administrator role. The position supports the Controller with quarterly reviews, the annual audit, public-company reporting, Forms 10-Q and 10-K, and technical accounting matters. It provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and oversight for assigned Accounting team members, including A/P and A/R, and collaborates with Finance, Operations, Sales, IT, auditors, and other partners. This is a full-time, in-office role in North Quincy, Massachusetts, in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong hands-on NetSuite expertise and ability to improve accounting workflows, reporting, data integrity, and controls; experience with similar ERPs is also noted.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general-ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Review financial results and investigate variances, trends, and unusual activity.
  • Lead daily inventory-accounting oversight and the monthly inventory close, including costing, valuation, general-ledger reconciliation, adjustments, and exception resolution.
  • Oversee and improve the commission process, including the accuracy, approval, support, and payment of calculations.
  • Serve as the Accounting team’s hands-on NetSuite expert and improve team knowledge, adoption, and consistent platform use.
  • Own accounting outcomes in NetSuite, including data integrity, close workflows, reconciliations, reporting accuracy, approval controls, and exception management.
