About The Position

The Department of General Services (DGS) has an outstanding career opportunity for an energetic, experienced Assistant Construction Project Coordinator in the North Central Region of Pennsylvania. This role involves managing capital improvement projects for Commonwealth Agencies within DGS' North Central Region. The work involves traveling to liaise with internal and external stakeholders as well as overseeing construction work to ensure projects stay organized, safe, and on schedule. The construction portfolio consists of projects located within various Commonwealth Agency facilities, including correctional institutions, state hospitals, universities, and more. This position is home headquartered, but requires daily travel to job sites in specific North Central Region counties and occasional travel to counties outside the region. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County.

Requirements

  • Four years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience for renovations and new construction of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession and maintenance of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, or Snyder County.
  • Willing and able to travel to construction sites in Bedford, Blair, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lycoming, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, and Union counties in the North Central Region.
  • Willing and able to travel to the following counties outside of the North Central Region if necessary for work: Bradford, Cambria, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Forest, Franklin, Indiana, Jefferson, Schuylkill, Somerset, Sullivan, and Warren.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

Nice To Haves

  • On-site renovation and new construction experience at commercial, institutional, and educational buildings.
  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules.
  • Previous work experience on construction projects that utilized separate multiple Prime Contractors to perform the work.
  • Experience writing, generating correspondence to contractors, design professionals, and/or clients regarding project issues, conditions, or potential actions.
  • Experience conducting construction meetings.
  • Experience reviewing or negotiating construction change orders.
  • Microsoft Office Suite and/or Construction Management Software experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction activities to support progress and solve problems.
  • Conduct job conferences.
  • Provide advice and direction to outside professionals and contractors on construction matters.
  • Negotiate and approve change orders up to a specific limit.
  • Represent the Department in claims/disputes.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to project schedules and compliance with approved plans, specifications, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Maintain technical and administrative records.
  • Generate various documents and reports.
  • Ensure accuracy using both standard office and specialized construction computer software.
  • Ensure effective and efficient customer care to all client agencies and stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,714.00 (before taxes).
