About The Position

The assistant coach position provides a key leadership role and supports the overall management and development of Penn's women's rowing program. Responsibilities include direct coaching, designing and implementing training plans, and playing a central role in recruiting high-caliber student-athletes who align with the University's academic and athletic standards. The role also provides significant administrative oversight, including managing practice and competition logistics, NCAA compliance, travel coordination, and providing holistic support for student-athletes to foster their growth both on and off the water.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience coaching crew, preferably at the collegiate level required.
  • The ability to motivate recruits, student-athletes, and alumni to support the program enthusiastically.
  • Working knowledge and compliance of NCAA/Ivy League policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel with the team or when recruiting as required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and instruct student-athletes in sport-specific skills, training techniques, and strategies through preparation, practice, and competition, providing guidance in both group and individual settings.
  • Recruit national-caliber student-athletes by identifying, evaluating, and vetting prospects, coordinating communications and visits, and collaborating with admissions and financial aid to support enrollment of top academic and athletic talent.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff to support operations, ensure compliance with NCAA, Ivy League, and University policies, and assist with travel planning, paperwork, and other administrative duties.
  • Serve as a role model and advisor, providing support to student-athletes and connecting them with resources within and beyond Penn Athletics as needed.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
