About The Position

The Athletics Department at Cal State LA is seeking applications for a part-time Assistant Coach position for the Women's Golf program for the 2026-2027 academic year. Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will assist with all aspects of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate women's golf program competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), including practice planning, tournament preparation, student-athlete development, recruiting, academic support, team travel, compliance responsibilities, camps and clinics, equipment coordination, administrative operations, and program fundraising activities. The Assistant Coach supports the mission and values of Cal State LA Athletics and promotes student-athlete success, equity, inclusion, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated coaching experience in athletics, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated successful coaching and/or playing experience in golf at the collegiate, high school, amateur, or club level.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills are essential to support the overall operation and goals of the program.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, as well as knowledge of and commitment to NCAA, CCAA, and university rules and regulations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and remain insurable under university motor vehicle policies.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain upon hire, is required.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior collegiate golf playing and/or coaching experience
  • Familiarity with NCAA recruiting practices and junior golf recruiting
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Experience with tournament operations, golf course relations, golf instruction technology, and statistical analysis
  • Ability to assist with camps and clinics, community outreach, fundraising, and student-athlete development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and conducting team practices, individual skill instruction, tournament preparation, course scouting, practice rounds, and player development to support competitive success.
  • Provide instruction, mentorship, and guidance to student-athletes to promote athletic performance, leadership, academic success, sportsmanship, and personal development.
  • Assist the Head Coach with recruiting, equipment management, travel coordination, camps and clinics, tournament operations, scheduling, fundraising activities, and the day-to-day administrative operations of the women's golf program.
  • Support the academic success, retention, eligibility, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
  • Promote positive engagement with the university and surrounding community through outreach initiatives and representation of the Women's Golf program.
  • Maintain compliance with NCAA, CCAA, and university policies and procedures.
  • Assist with team travel and transportation responsibilities in accordance with university policies and procedures.
