About The Position

Augustana University invites applications for a part-time Women’s Club Hockey Assistant Coach within Recreational Services. This position works closely with the Head Coach to support the overall operation and development of the Women’s Club Hockey program while providing a positive, competitive, and student-centered experience for club members. The Assistant Coach will assist with practices, game preparation, recruiting, player development, team supervision, and administrative functions of the program. The position will also provide on-ice instruction and player feedback, assist in evaluating opponents and developing game plans, and may serve as Head Coach when scheduling or team travel requires.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Understanding of American Collegiate Hockey Association rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and other University stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Ice hockey coaching experience.
  • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience recruiting academically qualified student-athletes.
  • Previous experience as an ice hockey student-athlete.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with the day-to-day operation of the Women’s Club Hockey program.
  • Plan and lead on-ice, position-specific sessions and assist with overall practice planning.
  • Provide instruction, feedback, and analysis to support individual player and team development.
  • Assist with game-day organization, preparation, assignments, and opponent evaluation.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes through evaluation, outreach, and relationship-building with prospective students and coaches.
  • Supervise and provide direction to club hockey team members.
  • Support conditioning, academic services, and other activities that contribute to the student experience and student-athlete well-being.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities and program operations, including appropriate fiscal management.
  • Maintain compliance with University, Recreational Services, American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), and applicable conference policies and regulations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with students, University staff, Recreational Services staff, and other program stakeholders.
  • Serve as Head Coach when necessary due to overlapping game or travel schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
