About The Position

Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference is seeking applications for a part-time Assistant Softball Coach. Coaching or collegiate playing experience and a four-year college degree are preferred. Responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all phases of the softball program within college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; including evaluating, identifying, and recruiting prospective student-athletes; and planning and implementing strategies into daily practices. The Assistant Coach will be present at all practices and competitions during the fall and spring seasons and will work primarily with power hitters and outfielders. This part-time position requires a committed professional who will be present at all practices and competitions during the fall and spring seasons.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and related professional experience, or a combination of professional and athletic experience leading to a similar qualification, preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience in softball, preferably at the collegiate level or with highly competitive high school/travel programs.
  • Strong playing background at the collegiate level is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of softball-specific skills, strategy, and the ability to coach power hitting and outfield play effectively.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and connect with student-athletes, parents, college staff, alumni, and community members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with a varied audience.
  • Ability to travel and adapt to varying schedules, including evening and weekend hours, in accordance with the needs of the team.
  • Thorough understanding of and commitment to NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Successful completion of standard background checks, including but not limited to education verification, national criminal background checks, and driving record check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship and must reside within, or independently relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance of the College before the position’s start date.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the head coach, provide leadership and support to all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the College and Athletics department.
  • Support the head coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division III program in accordance with college, NCAA, and Centennial Conference policies.
  • Motivate, counsel, and support student-athletes in realizing their potential for personal growth and development as athletes, students, and members of the general college community.
  • Assist with and attend all practices, training sessions, team meetings, and contests (home and away). The Assistant Coach will be present for all fall and spring practices and games.
  • Provide specialized coaching and skill development for power hitters and outfielders, delivering technical instruction, position-specific drills, and advanced strategy.
  • Assist in planning and evaluating program results.
  • Attend meetings and training as required by the head coach, Athletics department, and College.
  • Assist in recruitment strategies, identifying, evaluating, and communicating with prospective student-athletes both on and off campus.
  • Support day-to-day program operations, including administrative tasks and equipment management.
  • Assist in achieving team success within and beyond the conference.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in promoting strong parent, alumni, and community relations.
