About The Position

The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach supports the Head Golf Coach in all aspects of the University of Redlands Men’s and Women’s Golf programs, including planning, administering, and evaluating various aspects of the operations of both programs. This full-time assistant coach serves a critical role in team instructions, recruitment, and retention efforts in both programs. The assistant golf coach is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Bulldog men’s and women’s golf programs. The assistant coach must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rules and policies. This position requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as well as travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years of golf coaching/instructional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and attract high-achieving student-athletes.
  • Clear understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting.
  • A valid California Class C CA driver’s license with a good driving record is required. Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA Division III and SCIAC philosophy, rules and regulations.
  • Possess the ability to attract outstanding students to the University.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics in a private, liberal arts academic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to lead with professional integrity and ethical standards in compliance with appropriate safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and personal computer software and applications.
  • Aptitude to learn new and evolving technology.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Understand, interpret, explain, and apply applicable federal and state policies and laws.
  • Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with all administrative aspects of the men’s and women’s golf programs including completion of all administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, creation of practice plans, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities, and events.
  • Identifies, evaluates, recruits, and retains qualified prospective student-athletes for men’s and women’s golf programs to meet necessary roster expectations determined by the Head Coach, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Admissions Team.
  • Maintains effective and consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and Admissions.
  • Arranges and conducts on- and off-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
  • Assists with on-course coaching, training, and skill development for men and women.
  • Plans, executes, and maintains all aspects of the men’s and women’s program’s social media sites (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • A collateral departmental administrative assignment to be performed in support of programs and the university. Such assignment will be determined by the strengths, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.
  • Functions as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by attending all required staff meetings and completing mandatory assignments.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
