About The Position

The Real Estate & Development Unit is currently seeking a licensed Pennsylvania Attorney to fill an Assistant City Solicitor position. This is an entry-level position for attorneys interested in real estate and contract law. The attorney will work on transactional matters including negotiating, reviewing and drafting lease agreements, license agreements, deeds, grant agreements, professional service contracts and other agreements. The attorney will also research property title history and draft ordinances to obtain Philadelphia City Council authorization when needed for transactions.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a law degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar, or currently eligible to be admitted by reciprocity to practice in Pennsylvania (Pa.B.A.R. 204).
  • Continued employment of attorneys not admitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six (6) months of hire is at the discretion of the Law Department.
  • The successful candidate must be a city of Philadelphia resident within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year plus of relevant experience within a legal setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advising and representing City Departments in all real estate transactions involving the use of City property or the City’s use of private property.
  • Reviewing and evaluating federal and state laws and City ordinances that affect the real estate functions of the City.
  • Researching and analyzing issues and drafting documents relating to real estate law, the Philadelphia Code and the Philadelphia Charter.
