The role is the Assistant Chief IP Counsel, Director for a global business, and this role reports directly to the Chief IP Counsel. Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, required licensure to practice law within at least one state, and license to practice before the USPTO
  • Twelve (12) years of experience in intellectual property law, at least five (5) of which includes working at a large, multinational company
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a science, engineering, or math discipline from an accredited institution
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the IP attorney for the business operating committee and their leadership team; through this engagement, you will be responsible for providing counsel, expertise, and strategic advice to the business leaders and business functions
  • Proactively and strategically advising and educating business leaders on key global IP issues to support and accelerate business priorities
  • Partnering with the business to create and execute data-driven, externally informed IP strategies that support and accelerate business growth aligned to the business’s vision
  • Manager role of a patent specialist who manages outside counsel handling the global IP portfolio, including strategic IP generation, right sizing the IP portfolio, and using IP to protect and defend Solventum innovation
  • Managing all offensive and defensive IP disputes globally in support of the business’s goals
  • Drafting and negotiating all IP centric agreements globally in support of business goals
  • Assessing all new product launches globally in view of third-party IP rights, clearly communicating such assessment, and providing risk mitigation strategies to support business goals
  • Proactively identifying, clearly communicating, and providing strategic counsel on global IP risks
  • Supporting M&A and investment activity aligned to business goals including working with Corporate Development on deal structure and terms, assisting in due diligence, and working with outside counsel in drafting and negotiating deal agreements
  • Partnering with other corporate functions and colleagues within legal to cross-functionally support and accelerate business growth globally and in all regions and countries
  • Coordinating regional and local implementation of global IP programs and strategies as they relate to the business; this will require active partnership with both key business/functional stakeholders and with the IP functional and regional teams
  • Developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, conducting regular IP training, communications, and processes
  • Managing the IP budget for the business
  • Leading multiple projects simultaneously from end to end, from project ideation and analysis to project launch and monitoring
  • As requested, taking on subject matter expert roles within IP and Legal to support overall Solventum growth and goals
