About The Position

Tucker Ellis LLP is seeking an experienced IP Assistant – Patent & Trademark Prosecution to join our Intellectual Property practice. This role may be based in our St. Louis or Cleveland. This position will provide direct administrative and patent and trademark prosecution support to attorneys, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with USPTO and international filing requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience as an IP assistant, legal assistant, or legal secretary with demonstrated experience in both patent and trademark prosecution
  • Working knowledge of USPTO rules, procedures, and filing systems (including electronic filing)
  • Experience with IP docketing systems and document management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment while collaborating effectively with attorneys and team members
  • Ability to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity from a state where Tucker Ellis has an office

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and practice support to attorneys handling patent and trademark prosecution matters
  • Prepare, edit, and proofread patent and trademark prosecution correspondence, applications, office action responses, and related legal documents
  • Coordinate and manage U.S. and foreign patent and trademark filings, including preparation of filing documents and working with foreign associates
  • Maintain and monitor IP dockets, deadlines, and calendars to ensure timely filings and responses
  • Prepare and file documents with the USPTO and other intellectual property offices
  • Assist with patent and trademark prosecution, including maintenance filings, renewals, and recordation of assignments
  • Manage client files and records, including opening new matters, maintaining electronic files, and closing matters in accordance with firm procedures
  • Communicate professionally with clients, foreign associates, vendors, and government agencies regarding filing requirements and deadlines
  • Enter attorney time, assist with billing, and support client engagement and administrative tasks as needed
