About The Position

The Assistant Cheerleader Coaches will be responsible for assisting in the administration of the designated sports program, including developing team philosophies, supervising players, and managing equipment inventory. They will also work with the head coach and athletic director/principal on program budget, maintenance of fields and facilities, and preparing practice/game plans. The role involves supervising an off-season strength and conditioning program, assisting with player academic progress, and ensuring proper care of injuries. Building positive relationships with players, parents, students, coaches, band, faculty, officials, media, and the community is crucial. The coaches must be knowledgeable of and adhere to all WVSSAC rules, attend required clinics, and assist in organizing supplemental funding activities. They will also cooperate in the supervision and evaluation of other coaches, participate in staff development, and engage in the school’s Sportsmanship Program and Scholar/Athlete Program. Effective communication with the head coach, athletic director, and/or principal regarding all operations and activities is essential, along with performing additional reasonable job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess or be eligible for West Virginia Teacher Certification; or, possess or have the ability to obtain the WV Coaching Authorization (High School Diploma or GED Required), prior to the start of the season.
  • Successful completion of a three-day ASEP / WVSSAC certification training class, with three online exams, followed by four NFHS / WVSSAC online courses, with online exams and required Safeschools trainings.
  • Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration.
  • Applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations are not to be considered eligible for consideration.
  • Applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for consideration.
  • Applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration.
  • The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have prior approval and recommendation of administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with head coach, athletic director and/or principal regarding all operations and activities
  • Perform additional, reasonable, job-related responsibilities as assigned by the head coach, athletic director and/or building principal
