About The Position

This is a working position that requires a working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and Building Management Systems (BMS) as they relate to building operations, maintenance, and energy efficiency. The candidate should understand core HVAC components (e.g., air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems), basic troubleshooting practices, and preventive maintenance principles. Familiarity with BMS platforms is expected, including monitoring system performance, interpreting alarms and trends, and coordinating adjustments to optimize comfort and efficiency. The role also requires the ability to work with vendors, review system data, and support ongoing system improvements and compliance with operational standards. The Assistant Building & Grounds Officer assists in supervising the activities of a staff engaged in building and grounds maintenance. This includes assisting with the requisition of supplies and materials, inspecting building service contracts, and overseeing construction and maintenance repairs. The role also involves assisting vendors and contractors during the bidding process for repair and replacement work, managing budgetary allotments for repair accounts, and processing payments to contractors and vendors upon satisfactory completion of projects. The position requires preparing simple specifications and drawings, reviewing cost estimates, and assisting in planning and coordinating the work of skilled tradesmen. Additionally, the Assistant Building & Grounds Officer aids a superior in compiling data for the annual work program and assists clerical staff with billing, requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices. The role also includes acting as the supervisor in their absence.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of general building operation and maintenance activities.
  • A working knowledge of the materials and equipment used in building operation and maintenance.
  • The ability to assist in supervising the work of subordinates.
  • The ability to prepare simple specifications and some drawings.
  • The ability to follow budgetary allotments for billing repair accounts and to perform related fiscal functions.
  • The ability to deal effectively with superiors, vendors and contractors.
  • Graduation from a senior high school.
  • Employment in a responsible position in the field of building maintenance.
  • Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Responsibilities
