Requirements

  • Demonstrates interest/enthusiasm for and commitment to community library services.
  • Organizes, analyzes, and prioritizes work skillfully and efficiently.
  • Provides leadership for and supervises personnel effectively.
  • Operates library computers and business equipment.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Works independently within Branch Manager’s guidelines.
  • Maintains professionalism and adheres to library policies and staff code.
  • A high school diploma with some college coursework or additional certification, along with extensive leadership experience in professional library work including 5+ years in supervision at an administrative level are required.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school or a Master’s Degree in related field (such as a Master’s in Education or Business Administration) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Offers consistently excellent customer service.
  • Oversees and participates in the daily operations of the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager.
  • Supervises and participates in the daily operations of Circulation Services for the branch; provides direct customer service.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, evaluates, and motivates Public Service Assistants and Shelvers to improve the customer service experience.
  • Oversees and maintains appropriate documentation for circulation operations and services.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating circulation services for the branch, with input from staff.
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly and inviting atmosphere for library customers.
  • Resolves staff and customer concerns.
  • Meets frequently with Public Service Assistants and Shelvers and maintains an atmosphere of open communications.
  • Prepares communications, budgets, personnel records, and administrative reports.
  • Promotes The Lane Libraries within the community.
  • Keeps informed of current trends and issues in librarianship and participates in activities of professional and community organizations.
  • Serves on various teams and committees.
  • Keeps up with e-mail and information posted on the staff site.
