About The Position

The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Law, is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the Government Services & Employment Division. The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers, and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. Attorneys in this section provide advice and representation to the Secretary of State and Ethics Commission, the State Election Board, the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, and the Public Defenders Council.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Member of the Georgia Bar in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Handles cases at every stage of litigation in state and federal courts.
  • Conducts legal research and keeps abreast of recent legal developments in the field.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Prepares discovery requests and responses, including e-discovery.
  • Takes and defends depositions.
  • Provides general legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies.
  • May be called upon to present training material to client agencies.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars as required.
  • Travel, as required by the position (typically travel is limited).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
