About The Position

The Office of the Attorney General & Dept of Law is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Appeals. This role involves representing the Commonwealth in criminal appeals before the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia. The attorney will also handle habeas corpus and other post-trial litigation in state and federal courts at all judicial levels. Additionally, the position requires providing advice and assistance on criminal law and procedure matters, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly. Some overnight travel is expected.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission.
  • At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Good academic record.
  • Demonstrated excellent legal writing, research and oral communication skills.
  • Superior analytical ability, objectivity and maturity of judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of judicial law clerk, trial or appellate experience.
