About The Position

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Appeals. This role involves representing the Commonwealth in criminal appeals before the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia. Additionally, the attorney will manage habeas corpus petitions and other post-trial litigation in both state and federal courts at all judicial levels. The position may require some overnight travel. Further duties include providing legal advice and assistance on criminal law and procedure matters, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission.
  • At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney.

  • Demonstrated excellent legal writing, research and oral communication skills.
  • Superior analytical ability, objectivity and maturity of judgment.
  • One to three years of judicial law clerk, trial or appellate experience.

Responsibilities
