About The Position

The University of Iowa Athletics Department is hiring a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer to provide support to Women's Wrestling. This position will work closely with the Director of Athletic Training Services, and additional athletic training staff, as well as with team physicians and extended sports medicine staff regarding the care and management of injuries and illnesses to University of Iowa student-athletes.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in athletic training
  • Minimum of 1-year certified athletic training experience.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) in athletic training
  • Iowa Athletic Trainer license prior to commencement
  • Current CPR-P or ALS certification
  • Able to work constructively and collaboratively with all stakeholders, staff and student-athletes, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in athletic training or related field
  • 2-5 years of certified athletic training experience
  • Certified athletic training experience with Wrestling in the collegiate sport setting
  • Experience working with electronic injury surveillance and medical records programs
  • Experience working with a large roster of student-athletes

Responsibilities

  • Provide team healthcare services (e.g., mitigation, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation).
  • Develop return to play plans, coordinate referrals, and maintain excellent communication with a multidisciplinary medical health care team.
  • Assist with emergency action plans, development and rehearsal of involved parties.
  • Develop and educate on sport specific injury trends and conditions.
  • Travel with assigned team as needed and per policy.
  • Document all treatment and rehabilitation services according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide status reports for coaches and medical personnel.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to covered/non-covered healthcare expenses.
  • Maintain accurate health insurance information.
  • Collect and evaluate current Interim Health Questionnaires for assigned teams.
  • Assist the Director and Insurance Coordinator with trouble shooting insurance/billing issues.
  • Create a welcoming environment for all student-athletes focused on their health, safety and overall well-being.
  • Establish positive relationships with student-athletes founded on fairness, openness, honesty, and leadership opportunity.
  • Positively contribute to an environment that enhances the overall experience for student-athletes, and all members of the Athletics Department, alike.
  • Commit to team goals and shared accomplishments.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the University, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA; commits to reporting and Big Ten or NCAA violations involving the University of Iowa to departmental compliance personnel.
  • Manage resources and acts as an advocate for any student-athlete, employee or program.
  • Contributes to the recruitment of employees.
