About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide medical services to student-athletes and athletic teams as assigned, working under the direction of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletics Health Care and the Team Physicians. This role involves assisting with injury prevention, management, and rehabilitation, ensuring a safe and ethical working environment, and supporting the mission of the Sports Medicine Department and Athletic Department. The position also includes assisting with pre-participation physicals, insurance records, event coverage, and maintaining confidential medical records. Communication with student-athletes, coaches, and appropriate personnel is crucial, as is contributing to a clean and safe working environment. The role requires adherence to all department and university policies and procedures, with a focus on utilizing support services for the benefit of the student-athlete.

Requirements

  • Masters degree from an accredited institution
  • NATABOC certification
  • Eligible/possession of North Carolina Athletic Training State Licensure
  • CPR and AED Certified
  • Ability to walk, stand, and carry objects of moderate weight
  • Accommodate frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions (cold, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Possess the ability to utilize physical senses to include vision, touch, smell, and hear
  • Ability to communicate both verbal and written in a language understandable to student-athletes, coaches, and co-workers

Nice To Haves

  • One to Three (1-3) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer
  • Exhibit a student/patient first orientation in providing exceptional service in all responsibilities and interactions demonstrating versatility in handling people and situations

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical services to student-athletes and athletic teams as assigned.
  • Provide all services under the direction of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletics Health Care and the Team Physicians.
  • Assist with the prevention and recognition of injuries to student-athletes.
  • Assist with providing a safe, legal, and ethical working environment.
  • Assist with the management and rehabilitation of injuries to student-athletes adhering to departmental established protocols.
  • Assist with the organization and administration of all sports medicine services.
  • Support the mission statements, goals, and philosophy of the Sports Medicine Department and Athletic Department, as well as all university policy and procedures.
  • Assist with the organization, delivery, and documentation of pre-participation physical examinations.
  • Assist with the acquisition and maintenance of student-athlete insurance records.
  • Assist in the provision of coverage of athletic team practices and events.
  • Providing relevant communication regarding a student-athlete’s medical condition to appropriate sources in a timely manner.
  • Maintain medical records on all student-athletes in a timely, efficient, and confidential manner.
  • Contribute to a team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements and explore new opportunities to enhance the services of the department.
  • Assist with and actively contribute to the maintenance of a clean, sterile, and safe working environment.
  • Adhere to all department and university policies and procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities incidental to the work described herein.
  • Coordinate with the student-athlete, Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletics Health Care and appropriate personnel with needed to utilize support services for the benefit of the student-athlete according to policy and privacy procedures.
  • Undergo yearly performance evaluation.
