About The Position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to join its Intercollegiate Athletics department. This role supports comprehensive athletic medicine services, focusing on injury care, medical coordination, recordkeeping, and daily clinic operations to enhance athlete well-being and performance. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide coverage for women's volleyball and women's softball. UCCS is located at the base of the Rocky Mountains and offers a vibrant community with a focus on academic excellence, research, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study. (Substitution: combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities to be an athletic trainer is required.)
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer.
  • Colorado State athletic training licensure.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Mobility to get on ground to take care of student athletes.
  • Ability to help lift student athletes, water, and medical equipment.
  • Experience in athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Ability to make sound clinical judgments and develop effective, individualized recovery programs that support safe return-to-play outcomes.
  • Experience with athletic medicine staff, coaches, and student-athletes.
  • Experience delivering quality care in both practice and competitive environments, including travel coverage.
  • Experience in medical documentation standards and electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and efficiently track athlete health information, insurance details, and care plans in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Experience scheduling medical appointments.
  • Experience communicating injury status and treatment plans across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience effectively managing inventory, supplies, and equipment to ensure clinic readiness and continuity of care.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with women’s volleyball and women’s softball.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 370 student-athletes at UCCS and on the road.
  • Maintain updated files and accurate medical records of athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, conditioning programs, schedules, and other necessary data.
  • Maintain regular clear communication between athletic medicine staff, coaches, student athletes, and other UCCS employees as needed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the student athletes.
  • Coordinate clinical and physician appointments between the athlete and UCHealth or outside referral.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
