About The Position

The full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain and coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program for Spalding University athletics under the leadership of the Head Athletic Trainer. Duties will include injury prevention, emergency care, first aid and physical rehabilitation of injuries incurred by Spalding University's intercollegiate athletes. Will organize and conduct medically prescribed sports rehabilitation and conditioning programs following an injury and be responsible for appropriate organization and implementation of athletic insurance claim paperwork and follow-up as necessary. Also supervise and participate in the teaching of graduate athletic training students enrolled in an innovative, new entry-level Master of Science Degree Program in Athletic Training. Some weekends and overnight travel are required.

Requirements

  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Commitment to inclusiveness and collegiality in personal and professional work and mentoring students and faculty on the importance of multicultural and multidisciplinary applications

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional and administrative services essential for the success of the program under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Injury prevention, emergency care, first aid and physical rehabilitation of injuries incurred by Spalding University's intercollegiate athletes
  • Organize and conduct medically prescribed sports rehabilitation and conditioning programs following an injury
  • Responsible for appropriate organization and implementation of athletic insurance claim paperwork and follow-up as necessary
  • Supervise and participate in the teaching of graduate athletic training students
  • Practice and game supervision/coverage
  • Effective communication with athletes, coaches, families, university officials, and physicians
  • Referring athletes for appropriate diagnostic, follow-up procedures, and injury tracking
  • Working closely and communicating often and openly with the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Ability to listen to, take direction and guidance from, and be held accountable by the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Effectively communicate with and solve problems for diverse groups, including prospective or current students, fellow counselors and support staff, alumni, and other constituencies
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an environment characterized by large workloads, deadline pressures and high-performance standards
  • Apply and enforce university Covid-19 and NCAA protocols
