About The Position

The Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University invites applications for a 12‑month, tenure‑track Assistant, or Associate Professor in Veterinary Ophthalmology. This position will be based in the Department of Clinical Sciences on the Veterinary Health Campus at Colorado State University. The Ophthalmology Service at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of ocular and vision‑threatening conditions across species. The service is supported by modern clinical facilities, a strong and diverse referral caseload, and an experienced multidisciplinary support team, offering an excellent environment for clinical service, teaching, and professional collaboration.

Requirements

DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree.
Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology or European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO).
Evidence of maintaining research efforts with a track record of productivity (for Associate Professor).
5 years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank or equivalent (for Associate Professor).

Nice To Haves

Experience in instruction of DVM students.
Experience with mentorship of clinical residents, graduate students, and other specialists in training.
Evidence of dedication to the advancement of the field of veterinary ophthalmology.
MS or PhD and/or evidence of success in developing and or maintaining an independent research program including acquisition of funding and publications.

Responsibilities

Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including course and curriculum development.
Provide hands‑on clinical instruction to third‑ and fourth‑year DVM students.
Supervise ophthalmology residents and small‑animal interns.
Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in the DVM curriculum.
Conduct and publish research.
Pursue external funding and contribute to scholarly advancement in the field.
Provide service to the department, university, profession, and community in support of CSU’s mission.
Provide 18-24 weeks of clinical service annually within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, supporting direct patient care, specialty consultations, emergency coverage, and professional outreach to referring veterinarians statewide and beyond.
