About The Position

The Communication Division of the Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at Pepperdine University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Relations to begin August 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, possess a clear research agenda, and be capable of teaching courses such as Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations Writing, Public Relations Strategies and Techniques, and other current topics in Public Relations. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach general media courses like Media Writing & Storytelling, Communication Theories, and Media Research. Significant professional experience in the Public Relations industry is required to enrich teaching and research. The role involves mentoring students, co-advising the Public Relations Society of America chapter, overseeing student internships, and participating in divisional and college governance. A doctorate in Public Relations or a related field is required by August 1, 2027. Applicants must align with Pepperdine University's Christian mission and support Seaver College's mission.

Requirements

  • Documented research experience.
  • Documented teaching experience of relevant courses.
  • Industry experience in the Public Relations field.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses within the Public Relations and relevant programs, including Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations Writing, Public Relations Strategies and Techniques, and other relevant/current topics in Public Relations.
  • Teach general media courses, such as Media Writing & Storytelling, Communication Theories and Media Research (preferred).
  • Mentor and advise majors.
  • Co-advise the Public Relations Society of America chapter.
  • Oversee the curriculum component of student internships.
  • Participate in the governance and committee work of the Communication Division and Seaver College.
