About The Position

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Chemistry. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. JOB SUMMARY This position is a full-time, 10-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant / Associate professor in Chemistry in the Department of Natural and Computational Sciences. The candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate-level courses related to Chemistry as needed by the Department, especially those in General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Physical Science. The incumbent will also participate in departmental activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check

  • Prior experience teaching Chemistry lectures and laboratories at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to create learning environments in which students can learn and thrive
  • Have energy- or catalysis-related research experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction and facilitate effective student learning to undergraduate courses in Chemistry and related courses using a variety of current instructional modalities
  • Create, prepare, and supervise undergraduate laboratories and lab activities.
  • Use both internal ( g. D2L) and external learning management systems to deliver relevant course materials and information to students.
  • Develop course objectives, assignments, and means of evaluating student performance for the course.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments.
  • Engage undergraduate level students in research opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain an externally funded research program
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
