About The Position

The Department of Health Policy at Stanford University School of Medicine seeks an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the University Tenure Line or University Medical Line. The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in health policy or health services research, especially work focused on health and healthcare disparities. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. For University Tenure Line appointments, the predominant criterion is a major commitment to research and teaching. For University Medical Line appointments, the major criteria are excellence across clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The Department of Health Policy is a multidisciplinary group with broad domestic and global research and education programs. It is closely affiliated with Stanford’s Center for Health Policy in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and works with multiple university departments and schools. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program and participate in the School of Medicine’s health policy training and teaching programs. The position focuses on improving population health through health policy research. Areas of emphasis may include policy-level drivers of disparities in health outcomes; differences in the diffusion or impact of healthcare technology; policies to improve access to care; the effects of the economics and organization of care on access, quality, and safety for high-risk subgroups; and the design of programs and policies to reduce disparities in care and outcomes. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, one published or unpublished research paper, and a letter to the Search Committee Chair describing research interests and teaching experience. Early-career applicants should also provide the names and email addresses of three references. Applications will be reviewed beginning in November 2026 and should be submitted by January 6, 2027 for full consideration. The expected base pay depends on rank: Assistant Professor, $254,000–$292,000; Associate Professor, $340,000–$359,000; Professor, $418,000–$445,000. The stated base pay does not include all components of the School of Medicine faculty compensation program or departmental incentive compensation. Compensation is determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, years in rank, training, field or discipline, internal equity, and comparable external market pay.
