About The Position

The associate head coach helps the head coach with all activities of the designated program, including but not limited to recruitment and retention of student-athletes; monitoring of student-athletes’ academic progress; striving for competitive success; management of budget; and ensuring the program’s compliance with University, Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) guidelines. The associate head coach serves as the head coach when the head coach is not present.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 3 years collegiate coaching experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and governing body
  • Ability to use discretion and sound judgment
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the community, faculty, students, and staff

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes, promotes, and actively supports student-athlete academic achievement
  • Assists the head coach with managing all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program, including monitoring academic success, retention, and graduation progress; implements action plans with the appropriate academic staff when necessary
  • Follows appropriate academic policies and effectively collaborates with the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and NCAA academic coordinators to resolve conflicts
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits student-athletes for success at Lindenwood University
  • Imparts to student-athletes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and knowledge essential to the sport
  • Produces a high-performing team capable of meeting and maintaining competitive expectations as determined by the University athletic administration
  • Acts in accordance with the athletic code of conduct and exhibits a professional and sportsman-like manner
  • Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to the policies, procedures, bylaws, regulations, and rules of Lindenwood University, Intercollegiate Athletics, the NCAA, and Conference Office
  • Completes all program administrative responsibilities according to procedures
  • Supports the head coach by operating a fiscally responsible program and providing leadership for the team’s fundraising activities and program advancement initiatives
  • Manages game scheduling for future years and processes contracts according to procedures
  • Properly cares for, stores, distributes, and maintains a detailed inventory of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies
  • Serves as point of contact for the program for all administrative units in the absence of the head coach
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork – and to Athletics values: responsible, original, all-encompassing, and relentless
  • Promotes and takes pride in the Athletics department
  • Anticipates needs of students, colleagues, and administrators; takes ownership to respond promptly
  • Establishes effective relationships with the community while positively representing the program, department, and University
  • Creates experiential learning opportunities for student-athletes by actively engaging or participating in campus and/or community outreach projects and events
  • Maintains effective relationships with alumni and works to keep them engaged with the University
  • Leads training and development of assistant coaches and director of operations
  • Encourages and supports assistant coaches toward engaging in professional growth opportunities in conjunction with the performance evaluation process and the establishment of development goals
  • Job may require other duties as assigned.
