The University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Computer Sciences invites applications for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at the assistant, associate, and full professor levels, beginning August 2027. The department welcomes outstanding candidates in all areas of computer science, with particular interest in artificial intelligence, security and privacy, and quantum computing. Artificial intelligence is broadly construed to include embodied AI and robotics, machine learning and its supporting systems, and AI applied to science, engineering, medicine, education, and society. Candidates whose work is outside the areas of particular interest will also receive full consideration. Candidates at associate and full professor levels may apply at any time of the year; senior applications are reviewed as they arrive. The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence through evidence-based, student-centered teaching and undergraduate mentoring. They will help foster engagement and a sense of belonging among faculty, staff, students, and the broader community. The appointment includes scholarly research in one or more areas of computer science; individual and classroom teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels; advising and mentoring graduate students in computer science or related areas; and service to the department, college, university, and academic community nationally and internationally. The general teaching load is two courses per academic year. The College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence brings together the departments of Computer Sciences, Statistics, and the Information School. The new college is expanding its faculty by 50 positions and growing its research enterprise, supported by more than $400 million in philanthropic and institutional investment. It is based in Morgridge Hall, a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster collaboration, learning, and discovery. The Department of Computer Sciences is a highly ranked department with research strengths across many areas, a record of building large-scale computing infrastructure, and a history of interdisciplinary collaboration. The position is regular, ongoing, and renewable. Salary is negotiable. The appointment is scheduled to begin in August 2027.
