About The Position

Union College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering, beginning September 1, 2027. Candidates in all areas of Computer Engineering will be considered, with preference for backgrounds or research interests in hardware accelerator design, system-on-chip design, and AI-enabled embedded systems. Candidates nearing completion of their doctoral thesis by the start of employment are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate education and will establish and maintain a high-quality research program involving undergraduate students. Teaching includes undergraduate courses in microcontrollers, logic design, digital design, technical electives in the candidate’s areas of expertise, and supervision of senior capstone projects. The teaching load is equivalent to five courses in the first year and six courses per year thereafter. Lab sections count as half a course, and each senior capstone student supervised counts as a quarter course. The College encourages applicants with strong collaborative undergraduate teaching backgrounds and/or interdisciplinary research interests that intersect with arts and humanities. Potential connections include existing interdisciplinary programs and departments such as data analytics, computer science, music technology, neuroscience, visual arts, and digital media. The Electrical, Computer, & Biomedical Engineering Department combines a flexible liberal arts curriculum with rigorous, ABET-accredited engineering coursework. Its programs feature small classes and faculty-taught labs, hands-on projects throughout the curriculum, study abroad opportunities, and close student-faculty collaboration on research. The department has 15 full-time faculty members and serves approximately 200 students. The position is located in Schenectady, New York. The annual salary range is $93,000–$96,000. Applicants must submit all materials as PDF files in a single PDF: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, separate statements of teaching and research interests (including, where applicable, experience working with diverse learning communities), up to two peer-reviewed publications or other evidence of scholarship, and a list of required instrumentation and equipment. Review begins December 1, 2026, and continues until the position is filled. Finalists will undergo a background check. Applicants invited to first-round interviews will be asked for contact information for three professional references.
