About The Position

California State University San Marcos invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Engineering, starting Fall 2027. The department seeks candidates committed to an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, modern Computer Engineering degree program. Applications are welcome from across contemporary areas of computer engineering, including cyber-physical systems, edge computing, computer architecture and high-performance computing, quantum computing, VLSI design, signal processing, hardware–software co-design, cloud and distributed systems, hardware security, machine learning hardware, and bio-inspired computing. Scholars in all computer engineering areas will receive full consideration; candidates whose research aligns with quantum science and technology may be eligible for enhanced start-up support as part of the University's strategic investment in quantum-related fields and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Electrical and Computer Engineering department is growing and features modern laboratories, ABET accreditation, and close ties to local industry. CSUSM values undergraduate teaching and student involvement in research. The campus follows a teacher-scholar model and is located in the San Diego North County region. A new 75,000-square-foot Integrated Science and Engineering building, including engineering laboratories, is expected to open in 2027. The University offers a competitive salary and a full benefits package, with options for summer salary and/or a reduced teaching load during the first two years to support the beginning teacher-scholar. Candidates must hold a B.S. in Computer or Electrical Engineering and have a Ph.D. in Computer or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by the appointment date. ABD candidates may be considered, but the doctorate must be conferred by the hire date. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence, published research commensurate with experience, and the ability to develop and sustain a research program producing original peer-reviewed publications. They must communicate effectively and work cooperatively in a diverse campus community. Applications are submitted through the CSUSM Online Employment Application and must include a cover letter addressing minimum and preferred qualifications, a curriculum vitae with three professional references, a teaching philosophy statement of up to two pages, and a description of research accomplishments and future goals of up to two pages. Applicants must also provide representative publication reprints and works in process, graduate-level transcripts, and contact information for three professional references. Application review begins November 30, 2026, and continues until the position is filled. Employment is conditioned on working in California and satisfactory employment, education, reference, and criminal-record checks. The position is subject to mandated-reporter requirements under California law.
