About The Position

Our client is seeking an Assistant/Associate Director of Development to lead and grow key fundraising efforts, with a focus on planned giving, donor stewardship, and engagement. This individual will manage a portfolio of leadership donors, cultivate long-term relationships, and secure major gifts that advance the organization’s programs and strategic priorities, including an upcoming capital campaign. The Assistant/Associate Director of Development is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive fundraising programs, including planned giving strategies, donor recognition initiatives, and stewardship activities. Working closely with marketing and communications, this position will help shape compelling philanthropic messaging and campaign materials, while also supporting grant development. The Assistant/Associate Director of Development role requires strong data management and analytical skills to track engagement, inform strategy, and ensure accurate reporting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 years (Assistant level) to 5–7 years (Associate level) of fundraising experience, with demonstrated success securing five- to seven-figure gifts
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, including planned giving vehicles and associated tax considerations
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Experience analyzing and utilizing data to inform strategy and support decision-making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft/Google Office tools, including Excel or Google Sheets
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and accountability in handling sensitive information
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and ability to travel as needed (valid driver’s license or equivalent)

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage development programs, with a focus on planned giving, donor stewardship, and engagement initiatives
  • Cultivate, solicit, and secure major gifts from a portfolio of leadership and prospective donors, including complex assets such as securities, IRAs, and estate commitments
  • Build and maintain long-term donor relationships through strategic stewardship programs, recognition initiatives, and targeted engagement activities
  • Support planning and execution of a capital campaign, including donor outreach, events, reporting, and campaign-related communications
  • Partner with marketing and communications to develop compelling fundraising messaging, storytelling, and content across print, digital, and social platforms
  • Develop and update planned giving materials, website content, and digital tools (e.g., calculators and donor stories) to enhance donor engagement
  • Analyze donor data and maintain accurate records in CRM systems to inform strategy, track engagement, and ensure proper gift acknowledgment
  • Contribute to grant development efforts by identifying funding opportunities and assisting with proposal preparation
  • Collaborate across departments to support organizational initiatives and enhance donor and visitor experiences
  • Perform administrative and reporting duties related to fundraising activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail
