About The Position

This position involves academic and clinical responsibilities within the college and its clinical arm, MatureCare. Academically, the role focuses on instructing medical students in various aspects of osteopathic manipulative medicine, clinical skills, decision-making, and general medical knowledge. This includes lecturing, leading small group sessions, and precepting students in clinical settings, particularly in geriatrics. Clinically, the role involves providing direct patient care within post-acute/long-term care/assisted living facilities through MatureCare, offering medical direction, and supervising students. The position requires developing and maintaining a financially viable practice, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and providing on-call coverage. Additionally, the role includes mentoring scholarly activity and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations like OSHA and HIPAA.

Requirements

  • Board Certified DO or MD Physician in Family Medicine/Internal Medicine/Geriatrics.
  • Have or be eligible for Maine licensure to practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Comfort with performance and teaching basic skills in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is preferred.
  • Curricular and teaching experience in formal and informal teaching, and learner supervision and evaluation (preferred).
  • Clinical practice experience of at least 5 years (preferred).
  • Experience/expertise in holistic long term care medicine.
  • Experience in bedside clinical teaching/precepting (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the instruction of medical students through lectures, small group experiences (problem and case-based learning), covering topics such as osteopathic manipulative medicine, clinical skills, clinical decision-making, and general medical knowledge.
  • Participate directly in the instruction and development of clinical learning experiences in geriatrics for medical students.
  • Precept medical students in clinical settings, providing formal and informal clinical instruction and supervision.
  • Precept students from other colleges or graduate programs.
  • Participate in graduate medical education as it correlates with the college.
  • Provide direct medical care to patients of MatureCare, which includes patient-centered, team-oriented care and bedside teaching to osteopathic medical students.
  • Develop and maintain a financially viable clinic practice in an ethical, patient-centered manner, adhering to generally accepted standards of care.
  • Provide medical direction and oversight in facility-based care.
  • Provide backup or primary services in hospice and palliative care.
  • Review, analyze, and determine the significance of a broad array of healthcare concerns, diagnostic tests, and treatment plans, including the effective use of consultants.
  • Participate in and provide information for Quality Improvement initiatives for MatureCare and UNE.
  • Participate in on-call coverage, including nights and weekends, on a shared basis.
  • Provide timely, effective, and appropriate documentation of medical services.
  • Provide formal and informal instruction and supervision for medical students, residents, and health professionals.
  • Coordinate and monitor patient care rendered by supervised students and residents.
  • Prepare thorough and timely evaluations of supervised residents and students.
  • Participate in community relation efforts to enhance the reputation, visibility, and credibility of University Health Care and UNE.
  • Conduct and mentor scholarly activity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and safety training requirements of UNE.
