About The Position

McMenamins Barley Mill Pub is hiring an Assistant-Assistant Manager (AAM). McMenamins is a family-owned company in Oregon and Washington that serves handcrafted beer, wine, cider, spirits, coffee, and pub fare. The primary responsibility of the AAM is to assist in all pub operations under the guidance of the Pub Manager. This role requires the ability to perform non-management duties, including opening and closing the pub. The AAM will often act as the host, oversee the smooth running of shifts, and maintain excellent customer relations. Duties include working indoors and seasonally outdoors, assigning sections to servers, serving guests, taking food and beverage orders, delivering products, collecting payment, cashiering, using a point of sale system, setting up and breaking down service areas, regulating labor, overseeing side work, cleaning, and training staff. Administrative duties as assigned by the manager are also part of the role. The AAM must effectively handle personnel and customer service issues, provide appropriate service to meet customer needs and requests, and troubleshoot problems during shifts, reporting any issues to the Head Manager and District Manager. This position involves hard physical work and requires the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The AAM must work well both independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain current food handlers and OLCC permits
  • 21+ years of age
  • Excellent knowledge of wine, ales and spirits is required
  • Available to work FT with a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory / cooking experience is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all pub operations under the guidance and direction of the Pub Manager.
  • Perform the responsibilities of non-management positions.
  • Perform all opening and closing duties of the Pub.
  • Act as the host and oversee the smooth and effective running of the shift.
  • Work outside on a seasonal basis as well as indoors.
  • Maintain and provide excellent customer relations with all customers.
  • Assign sections to servers.
  • Serve guests and tables in assigned sections by taking food and beverage orders.
  • Deliver products in a timely manner.
  • Collect payment and perform cashiering duties.
  • Work on a point of sale computer system.
  • Set-up, maintain, and breakdown service and work areas so that they are well stocked and organized for efficient and safe service.
  • Regulate labor and oversee side work.
  • Perform cleaning duties.
  • Train staff.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by manager.
  • Effectively deal with personnel and customer service issues as they arise.
  • Provide appropriate service to the customer to meet their needs and requests whenever possible to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Help solve and troubleshoot any problems that come up during the course of a shift.
  • Report any issues to the Head Manager and District Manager.
